Abstract

A mystical, mythical, or legendary creature is a creature from mythology or folklore. Examples of legendary creatures can be found in medieval bestiaries. Often legendary creatures came to symbolize vices or virtues, or the power of good or evil. In many cases, their actual existence was secondary to the moral of the tale in which they featured.

Legendary creatures have often been incorporated into heraldry and architectural decoration. This is particularly the case with those symbolizing great strength or other power. In contemporary times, many legendary creatures appear prominently in fantasy fiction. These creatures are often claimed to have supernatural powers or knowledge or to guard some object of great value.

Mythical creatures have been part of human culture throughout the ages and across all parts of the world. They are not just the "talking" creatures, animals able to communicate using language and also rather clever, as in Aesop's fables. Mythical creatures are in themselves beyond normal reality, often composites of existing animals or animals and humans.

Some of these creatures may have existed in the past, and many believers have produced fossils and other evidence for their previous existence. Some, such as the Loch Ness Monster or Sasquatch, continue to be "sighted" and sought to this day. While the origins of these fabulous creatures are varied, and often disputed, they have played significant roles in human society.

They have been educational, helped parents to discipline their children and to inculcate cultural values and norms, and have served to stimulate the imagination and desire that is ingrained in human nature to experience more than this physical world. Whether they truly exist in physical form is indeed secondary to their existence in the minds of so many people throughout the world and through history.

Apstrakt

Mistično, mitsko ili legendarno stvorenje je stvorenje iz mitologije ili folklora. Primeri legendarnih bića mogu se naći u srednjevekovnim enciklopedijama o zverima. Često legendarna stvorenja simbolizuju porok ili vrlinu, ili moći dobra i zla. U većini slučajeva, stvarno postojanje je bilo nebitno u odnosu na priču u kojoj je biće uključeno.

Legendarna stvorenja su često uklljučena u heraldiku i arhitekturu i dizajn. Ovo je naročito prisutno u slučajevima onih bića koja označavaju veliku snagu i druge moći. U savremenom dobu, veliki broj legendarnih bića se javljaju u fantastici. Za ova bića se često govori da imaju natprirodne moći i znanje ili da štite neki objekat velike vrednosti.

Mitska bića su bila deo ljudske kulture godinama i širom sveta. Ona nisu samo bića koja govore, životinje koje imaju moć da komuniciraju jezikom već i pametna, kao u Ezopovim basnama. Mitska bića su nešto nerealno, često sastavljena od postojećih životinja ili od ljudi i životinja.

Neka od ovih stvorenja su možda postojala u prošlosti, i mnogi vernici tvrde da su oni postojali na osnovu fosila i drugih dokaza da njihovog prethodnog postanka.

Neka, kao što su čudovište iz Loh Nesa ili Saskvač, i dan danas se pominju i plaše ljude. Dok je nastanak ovih poznatih bića raznolik, i često sporan, oni su igrali značajnu ulogu u ljudskom drušstvu.

Oni su vaspitni, pomažu roditeljima da vaspitaju svoju decu i da im uliju kulturme norme i vrednosti, i služila su kao stimulans mašti i želji ljudske prirode da otkrije nešto više od materijalnog sveta. Pitanje da li oni stvarno postoje u fizičkoj formi je u senci njihovog značaja u umovima mnoštva ljudi širom sveta i kroz istoriju.
